As it happens with the Julio Iglesias Auditorium at Benidorm’s Parque de L’Aigüera, the city could soon have a street, square or other public place named after singer Raphael. At least, this is the city’s mayor Agustín Navarro’s intention, who will meet the singer next Friday to “prepare the acts that will commemorate the famous artist’s 50 year career anniversary in 2012”. This was announced yesterday by the City Council of Benidorm’s sources, who indicated this meeting with the mayor, apart from planning the tribute, will also happen hours before Raphael’s show at the Julio Iglesias Auditorium, from 22.30, in front of about 2000 people. Raphael started his professional career in the music world with his participation and victory at the Benidorm Song Festival in the summer of 1962. Then, singing the song “Llevan”, he got the Sirenita de Oro Award in the fourth edition of the Benidorm Festival, which also made some other singers famous such as Julio Iglesias, Mona Bell or Dyango. After half a century, Raphael comes back to the city next Saturday to perform the songs of his “Te llevo en el corazón” tour, directed to, as he defines it, his lifetime followers. The tickets can be bought from 28 euro and they are still on sale.
